Super Feeler: A BPD Podcast

No Longer Denying Diagnosis Leads to Normal-ish Parenting (feat. Jennifer)

Laurie Edmundson

Jennifer is a marriage and family counsellor living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). She shares her personal journey, including her experiences with therapy, the importance of receiving the correct information/diagnosis in order to plan treatment, parenting, and the stigma she’s experienced.

Jennifer has spent a lot of time talking to her kids in an age appropriate way about her BPD and explaining what it means. This is helpful to her so she can stop the "hand-me-down" disordered thinking.

*just a note that Laurie refers to Jennifer in the episode as a counsellor rather than a therapist. That's Laurie's Canadian talking. Jennifer is a Licensed Marriage and Family THERAPIST so for the purpose of this episode please consider those to be synonymous words.*

Some of the resources that helped Jennifer the most are:

The books she's read to/with her kids:

  • Meltdown Moments: Helping families to have conversations about mental health and their feelings and experiences
  • An Umbrella for Alex
  • Millie the Cat has Borderline
  • Lizzy Lives In An Angry House: Learning to thrive in the midst of an angry environment
  • The Weather House: Living with a parent with BPD

The books she's used for herself/her clients:

  • Sometimes I Act Crazy: Living with BPD
  • I Hate You-Don’t Leave Me: Understanding the Borderline Personality
  • The Body Awareness Workbook for Trauma - Julie Brown Yau
  • The Courage to Heal - Bass and Davis
  • Trauma Treatment Toolbox - Sweeton
  • The Neurodivergent Friendly Workbook of DBT Skills - Wise

And here are the two articles Jennifer wrote in December 2024:

Laurie's to watch BPD documentary:

A Football Life documentary about BPD hero Brandon Marshall
