DBT Skills: PLEASE
Meet our new DBT Skills series guests Kat and Heather!
In this episode we break down the PLEASE skill from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. It's an IMPORTANT one.
If you're new to the PLEASE skill here's a little breakdown for you!
P – Physical Health: Address any physical illness, injuries, or medical concerns. Follow doctor’s recommendations and take medications as prescribed.
L – Lessen Mood-Altering Substances: Avoid or reduce alcohol, drugs, and excessive caffeine,
E – Eat a Balanced Diet: Eat regular, nutritious meals to stabilize blood sugar levels.
A – Avoid Mood-Altering Drugs: Limit or eliminate substances that negatively impact mood and cognition (e.g., non-prescribed substances).
S – Sleep Well: Aim for a consistent, adequate sleep schedule (7-9 hours).
E – Exercise Regularly: Engage in physical activity to reduce stress, improve mood, and increase emotional resilience.
By following PLEASE, you reduce emotional vulnerability and improve overall mental stability, making it easier to manage distress and regulate emotions effectively.
